Larijani Elected As Speaker Of Iran’s 9th Parliament

Tehran, June 5, IRNA – Ali Larijani was elected as the Speaker of the new Iranian Parliament for the first year of the body’s four-year term. He managed to get 177 votes from the total 266 cast just to defeat Gholamali Haddad Adel. Larijani represents Qom constituency in the Majlis. He presided over the parliament in the past four years with 237 votes cast in his favor. Larijani was born in 1957 in a highly reputable clerical family. Being a computer engineer, he also holds a PHD degree in western philosophy. He has also served as secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), representative of the Supreme Leader in the SNSC, IRIB chief and minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance./end
