Larijani: Iran Navy contributes to preserving security in Djibouti

Tehran, Nov 23, IRNA – Iranian Navy plays an important role on preserving security in Djibouti, in addition to its restless combat against pirates in Gulf of Aden, said Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani here Saturday night. “Djibouti is of special importance for us, due to its geographical location in a sensitive region and we have close political and economic relations with that country,” he said in a meeting with the press after arriving back in Tehran from an official visit of Djibouti. He added that the Iranian Parliament, too, has good parliamentary relations with that country’s lawmaking body, adding, “We opened the new Parliament House of Djibouti, which is constructed by Iranian engineers during this visit.” “This visit provided an opportunity for talking with Djibouti’s President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh on both bilateral relations and the regional status,” he said, adding that he also had meetings with some African countries’ parliament speakers during the visit. Larijani, meanwhile, referred to the ongoing developments in Africa, emphasizing that the visit provided a good chance for consultations on those developments./end
