Larijani: JCPOA is multiparty, cannot be challenged by a single state

Tehran, Dec 6, IRNA – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Tuesday that nuclear deal – known as JCPOA – is an international agreement which has been approved by the United Nations and that a single country cannot decide about or jeopardize it. Larijani made the remarks in a press conference. When asked whether a probable US breach of JCPOA would cause a rift between the US and other G5+1 countries, Majlis speaker said that the Chinese foreign minister has openly talked about his country's stand and the Russian government also stands by Iran. Iran will hold talks with other G5+1 countries, Larijani said. However, he noted that Iran nuclear deal is not an agreement between Iran and the US, rather it is an international document. Asked to comment about reports by some US and European news agencies claiming that Iran has a different interpretation of JCPOA based on which regards new US sanctions a breach of the nuclear deal, Larijani said that some parts had to be more cautiously included in JCPOA so as not to cause different interpretations. 'JCPOA includes some points of weakness like any other agreement or document,' Larijani said. On the US president-elect, the Iranian Majlis speaker said that Donald Trump has talked about regional issues more wisely than about other issues. 'They (president-elect team) say they don't want to spend $6 trillion the outcome of which would be deaths of 5,000 to 6,000 Americans. He has behaved more wisely than the previous US president (George W. Bush).' 1378/IRNA
