LAS Secretary-General to visit Moscow on February 25-26

MOSCOW, February 24. /TASS/. League of Arab States (LAS) Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi will visit Russia on February 25-26, officials of LAS office in Moscow told TASS on Wednesday. "The LAS Secretary-General will arrive in Moscow on February 25 to take part in the third session of the Russian-Arabic Cooperation Forum due to be held on February 26," the press service said. "Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and representatives of several Arab states will participate in the event." "The agenda includes Russian-Arab cooperation in different spheres and some political aspects, primarily the Syrian situation," the statement said. On February 26, Moscow will host the third session of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum at the foreign minister level. The foreign ministers of the UAE, Jordan and Bahrain (members of the Arab League Council) are expected to attend the session. "The forum participants plan to exchange opinions on the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, focusing on ways to settle crises and to respond to the challenges and threats facing regional countries," Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said earlier. "They will also discuss current regional and global issues, such as the Arab-Israeli issue, the fight against terrorism and extremism, and the creation of a zone free from weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East." According to Zakharova, "another issue on the forum’s agenda is to coordinate practical actions to strengthen all-round cooperation between Russia and Arab countries, including in the economic, humanitarian and cultural spheres."
