Laudable work by ERC in Aden: paper

A UAE paper has said that the provision of humanitarian and development assistance to the people of Yemen by the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, is highly laudable. Among its various initiatives, the ERC has now rehabilitated a hospital in the Directorate of Ramah in Yemen which is ready to welcome patients as part of a series of health and educational projects the philanthropist body is implementing to help Yemenis recover from the unfortunate events taking place there. "This project is of special importance as it lies in the midst of the desert directorates and on the international highway that links Yemen with the GCC countries," said Gulf Today in an editorial on Tuesday. It may be recalled that the Yemeni Coalition to Monitor Human Rights Violations, YCMHRV, recently exposed the Houthi militia/Saleh group’s recklessness towards human suffering by documenting a series of heinous crimes committed by that group. The unprecedented rights violations occurred at all levels and in all forms ever since Houthis gained control over the capital, Sana’a, last September. As per the YCMHRV report, between September 2014 and August 2015, 3,074 people were murdered, about 20 percent of whom were women and children and 7,347 civilians wounded due to random shelling, at least 25 percent of whom were women and children. The ERC group has embarked on admirable activity on the ground. More than 50 schools in Aden have been revamped and maintenance work will continue to cover 154 schools. Also, a number of health facilities, water and electricity works, electricity, sewerage and parks and others are being included in the plan. On a daily basis, the ERC teams are providing a large number of food and relief parcels for more than 4,000 Yemeni families in Aden. It is not just that. The authority is said to be planning to send a bigger number of its teams to various regions in Yemen to distribute thousands of parcels of various kinds of food and relief, as well as undertake complete reconstruction of service and infrastructure facilities. Major-General Jaafar Mohamed Saad, Aden’s new governor, has already stated that the results of the efforts exerted by the ERC have been seen in different fields, which proves the genuineness of the brotherly relations between the UAE and Yemen. "At a time when critical circumstances have engulfed Yemen, it is heartening to note that the UAE’s leadership and people have been lending unwavering support to that country, proving that a friend in need is a friend indeed," concluded the Sharjah-based daily. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/general/1395286657091.html
