Lavrov to address Russia & China second international conference

MOSCOW, May 31. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is expected to address the second international conference ‘Russia & China’ that is held on May 30 and May 31 in Moscow by the Russian Council for International Affairs. It is timed for President Vladimir Putin’s visit to China scheduled to China. The Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the conference would give special attention to coordination between the Eurasian Economic Union and the so-called Economic Belt of the Silk Road. In addition to it, the participants will consider opportunities for the setting up of the best suiting conditions conducive to the formation of a basically new economic and politic environment in the Eurasian space. Russian Deputy Foreign Ministers Igor Morgulov and Oleg Syromotov, co-chairmen of the Russian-Chinese Friendship committee Dai Bingguo and Boris Titov, and more than a hundrfed Russian and Chines public personalities, businessmen and experts are expected to take part in in the plenary sessions of the conference. On Monday, special expert sessions were held as part of the forum. The participants exchanged opinions economic integration in Eurasia, regional cooperation and security, integrational processes in education and science, and collaboration between the Russian and Chinese mass media. The main goal of the conference is to assess the current status of and tendencies in the development of Russian-Chinese relations. "It will be important to assess the main tendencies and to analyze the unresolved problems in the sphere of bilateral collaboration, as well as to draft proposals for a further development of strategic partnership," an official at the Russian Council for International Affairs said on the eve of the forum.
