Lavrov to discuss preparation for SCO, BRICS summits with China’s top diplomat

MOSCOW, June 3. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is expected to discuss with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi preparations for the summits of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS to be held in Ufa and coordination of actions on international issues. "We have a busy schedule, our leaders meet regularly," Lavrov said during the talks. The minister noted that the participants in today’s meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of SCO member-countries "would consider draft documents which were being prepared for the SCO summit in Ufa in the first decade of July." "There is a special document among them dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two. It is also a very important factor in our common efforts in this direction," Russia’s top diplomat said. "I hope to discuss with you today in more detail preparations for the SCO and BRICS summits and, of course, the state of our bilateral relations in the context of agreements between the leaders of Russia and China and coordination of actions on international issues, including in the UN Security Council," Lavrov added. He noted that Moscow appreciated the participation of President Xi Jinping in the Victory Day celebrations on May 9 and the participation of Chinese servicemen in the Victory Parade. "Our leaders have confirmed their determination to prevent the revision of the results of World War Two, not to allow to forget the memories of heroes who defeated Nazism and militarism. These efforts will be continued, including in connection with the preparations for the events due to take place in Beijing on September 3," Lavrov said. Read more
