Lavrov says consciousness of terrorism threat should prevail over geopolitical aims

MOSCOW, June 29. /TASS/. The consciousness of a common terrorism threat should prevail over geopolitical plots and unilateral goals, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after talks with his Syrian counterpart Walid Muallem on Monday. "The consciousness of a common threat should prevail over individual geopolitical plots and unilateral goals," Lavrov said. "These differences can be settled as part of a dialogue, but it is difficult to hold a dialogue between the states when the mere existence of them is under threat because of terrorists," he said. Lavrov stressed that the joint efforts should be focused on the fight against the Islamic State, al-Nusra Front and other groups. "For this, there are slightly more objective conditions today, first of all, because all the countries of the region are aware of the scope of this threat." The discussion on the new stage will be held later, and "today we want to continue the efforts on forming the consent," Lavrov said. "Maybe, this will not be a coalition in a classic sense, but the actions coordinated between everyone who is struggling against the terrorist threat." Read more
