Lavrov urges Syrians to undertake responsibility for developments in their country

MOSCOW, April 9. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called on the Syrians to undertake responsibility for the developments in their country. He said in his address to the participants in the second intra-Syrian consultations in Moscow on Thursday that measures of building-up trust between the Syrian government and the opposition were seen as a key element of promoting political process in that country. "We are confident that the dynamics of the development in and around Syria require urgent measures to ensure the country’s protection from terrorist aggression, to restore its unity," the Russian top diplomat underscored. "Russia will continue its efforts to promote peace and normalization in Syria," he said. "We have always been and will always be a friend to the Syrian people." However, in his words, Russia "has no right to undertake responsibility for the developments in the friendly but sovereign state."
