Lawyers Association seeks court's order for PDRC's end of protest

BANGKOK, December 7 (TNA) - Thailand's Lawyers Association has filed a petition with Bangkok's Constitution Court to order the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), now the largest anti-government protest group, to end its anti-government street demonstrations and to consider dissolving the main opposition Democrat party. Lawyers Association President Narinpong Jinapak told reporters that he has submitted the petition, seeking the Constitution Court's ruling whether ongoing political movements of PDRC secretary general Suthep Thaugsuban, who is a former MP and a former deputy prime minister of the Democrat Party, as well as Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and the opposition Democrat Party are unconstitutional attempts to seize power from the elected government. Narinpong said his association asked the Constitution Court to rule whether the actions of Suthep, Abhisit and the Democrat Party violate Section 68 of Thailand's Constitution, which states that "no person shall exercise the rights and liberties in violation of the rights and liberties of other people. According to the Lawyers Association president, his association also seeks the Constitution Court's emergency protective order for the defendants to end their protests, intrusion into and occupation of state and private offices. Besides, the Lawyers Association seeks the Constitution Court's order to dissolve the Democrat Party and to impose a five-year ban from politics against Democrat Party executives. (TNA)
