Leader panegyrizes senior cleric posthumously

TEHRAN, Oct. 22 (MNA) – A statement by Leader of the Islamic Republic has eulogized Mahdavi Kani after his demise in age of 83. “He was a hardworking figure and a faithful company in the difficult days of the Revolution for Imam Khomeini; he invested all he had in the success of the path of truth and righteousness,” the statement by the Leader reads. “This great and pious man was a loyal and courageous player in all important moments of the Revolution for the late founder of the Revolution,” the statement added. “With much regret and sorrow we received the news of the demise of the zealous and devout scholar Grand Ayatollah Hajj Sheikh Mohammad-Reza Mahdavi Kani which plunged his friends and lovers in deep sorrow; he was an important player in Revolutionary councils and after the Revolution, he accepted the position of Ministry of the Interior, serving in one of the most critical times in contemporary history of Iran; from serving as a founding member of Imam Sadeq University to serving as Imam of the Friday Prayer and recently, as the head of the Assembly of Experts, he was an honest politician and set aside all partisan, tribal and personal affiliations in his career,” the statement described Mahdavi Kani’s political life. The statement also expressed condolences for the bereaved family, students and disciples, and wished God’s most pure blessings and a glorious place in heaven for the senior cleric.
