Lebanese Cleric Praises Iranˈs Role In Confronting Radicalism

Beirut, March 6, IRNA – Deputy Head of Lebanon Islamic Shiite Supreme Council said a big plot is being formed in regional countries and Iran has an important role in confrontation with radicalism in the region. Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan, in a meeting with Secretary General of World Assembly of Islamic Religious Approximation Ayatollah Mohsen Araki, who is in Lebanon, heading an Iranian delegation, said that Iran has always tried to maintain unity among nations of the region. Qabalan, by underlining necessity of further cooperation between Islamic schools of thought, said it would be an element for strengthening Islamic Umma against enemiesˈ conspiracies. He added that nations should be kept away from radical trends, which try to create disunity among Muslims. Secretary General of the World Assembly of Islamic Religious Approximation underlined important role of Ulama and religious scholars in guiding society and confronting with enemiesˈ plots and said that Muslim Ulama, especially al-Azhar Ulama, are expected to try for strengthening unity among nations of the region. Ayatollah Mohsen Araki said that Lebanon is standing in front line of fight against the Zionist regime and Iran is standing by Lebanon in this fight. He called his meeting with Sheikh Qabalan very good and added that Islamic world issues as well as bilateral ties of Iran and Lebanon were discussed./end
