Lebanese Minister Calls For Expansion Of Ties With Iran

Beirut, Oct 18, IRNA - Lebanese Minister of Defense Samir Moqbel here on Saturday called for expansion of all-out ties with Iran. Speaking to IRNA, Moqbel made the remarks prior to his departure to Iran. Describing Iran as an influential regional country, he expressed hope that Tehran-Beirut mutual ties would further bolster in all arenas. Moqbel's Tehran visit is taking place at the official invitation of his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan. The Lebanese minister who is also Deputy Prime Minister is set to discuss the latest regional and international developments as well as bilateral relations with Iranian officials during his three-day stay in Tehran. On September 30, Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani said in Beirut that Tehran is to provide military equipment to the Lebanese army for its anti-terrorism struggles. Over the past months, Lebanon has been suffering from terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda-linked militants as well as random rocket attacks, which are viewed as a spillover of the conflict in Syria./end
