Lebanese Politician Welcomes Iran's 6-point Initiative On Syria

Beirut, Dec 23, IRNA – Head of the Baath party in Lebanon former minister Fayez Shokr said on Saturday that Iran's six-point initiative for settlement of Syrian crisis is highly important and significant, securing interests of Syrian as well as other regional Muslim nations, including the oppressed Palestinian nation. In a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi, the Lebanese politician said that Syrian crisis is in fact a plot hatched by global arrogance, led by the Zionist regime, with the main goal of keeping regional nations busy with conflict, whose result would be in the interest of Israeli occupying regime. He said that the Iranian initiative would guarantee interests of Syrian nation and would also secure interests of other regional nations. Roknabadi for his part outlined latest developments in the region and Iran's diplomatic efforts for a democratic process to be ushered in Syria. The Iranian initiative calls on the warring parties in Syria to stop fighting and opt for democratic process and free and fair election under supervision of the United Nations. An article of the initiative envisaged democratic election to determine composition of Syrian Senate to draft new Constitution and prepare the ground for presidential election and transition of power in the country. Roknabadi said, "Now all admit that Syrian crisis has no solution but democracy and Iran hopes that implementation of the initiative and its acceptance by all parties would help end bloodshed in Syria."/end
