Libya Forms Special Committee To Pursue Case Of Abducted Iranians

Tehran, Aug 15, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Parliamentary and Consular Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said Libyan officials have formed a special committee to follow up the case of abducted Iranians in that country. Seven members of Iran’s Red Crescent Society were abducted in Libya. Qashqavi said the abducted relief workers were members of a team that was present in Benghazi while the toppled Moamer Qaddafi was still alive. He said they had handed over five relief consignments to the Libyan revolutionaries including a field hospital and 40 tons of medicines. He described the abduction of the relief workers as a measure against the humanitarian code of conduct. He noted that he had a meeting with a number of Libyan officials including the head of Red Crescent Society during which they admitted the abduction of Iranian relief workers was absolutely an unfair action. Qashqavi expressed hoped that there would be good news about the release of the Iranian relief workers before or after the visit of the Libyan foreign minister to Tehran for the Non-Aligned Movement meeting next week./end
