Mahmoud Abbas, Only Palestinian Official Invited To NAM Summit: Mehmanparast

Tehran, Aug 26, IRNA – Spokesman of 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit announced here Sunday that President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas is the only Palestinian official invited to the Tehran NAM Summit. Talking to IRNA, Ramin Mehmanparast made the remarks on the sidelines of the NAM experts meeting in Tehran. Only Mahmoud Abbas has been invited to attend the Tehran summit from Palestine, he said, adding that no formal invitation has been sent for anyone else. If Iran wants to invite a special quest other than heads of the countries to NAM summit, the invitation must be sent via the NAM office in New York, Mehmanparast added. The NAM experts meeting was officially started here Sunday morning with a speech by Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi. The two-day meeting will be followed with the meeting of NAM foreign ministers and the Summit is to be held on August 30-31. Some 107 delegates are attending the expert meeting./end
