Majlis Backs Enhanced Co-op With Sri Lanka: Boroujerdi

Tehran, Jan 27, IRNA – Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said that the legislative body will extend support to enhance cooperation with Sri Lanka in various fields. In a meeting with Sri Lanka Ambassador to Iran, Faisal Rafeen, Boroujerdi referred to the history of two countriesˈ excellent ties saying that using the existing capacities and capabilities will pave the way for further mutual cooperation and interactions. Boroujerdi also stressed the need for the two countriesˈ officials to continue consultations. Rafeen, for his part, said that Iran enjoys a special status in his countryˈs foreign policy. Highlighting the role of parliaments in boosting relations, he said that parliamentary collaboration between the two countries will play a crucial role in improving Tehran-Colombo friendly relations. Sri Lanka is an island country in the northern Indian Ocean off the southern coast of the Indian subcontinent in South Asia, known until 1972 as Ceylon. Sri Lanka has maritime borders with India to the northwest and the Maldives to the southwest./end
