Majlis Gives Vote Of Confidence For Two Proposed Ministers

Tehran, Oct 28, IRNA – Iranian lawmakers, in a session on Sunday to study the credentials of three remaining ministers proposed by President Hassan Rouhani gave vote of confidence to two ministers, but, refused to do so for the third. After seven hours of debate, the MPs declared qualified Ali-Asghar Fani and Reza Faraji Dana to take the helm of Ministry of Education and Ministry of Science, Research and Technology respectively, but, they refused vote of confidence to the third nominee Reza Salehi Amiri, the candidate for the portfolio ministry of sports and youth. From 262 lawmakers present in parliament, 185 voted for Ali-Asghar Fani, 53 voted against him, with 24 abstentions. Reza Faraji Dana secured 159 votes out of 261 total votes cast. 70 lawmakers voted against him and 32 others abstained. Reza Salehi Amiri, the nominee for the Ministry of Sports and Youth, got 107 votes of confidence falling behind the required votes. Some 141 lawmakers voted against him, with 13 abstentions. According to the Constitution, the president has to introduce a caretaker for the ministry soon./end
