Majlis Speaker Appreciates Libyan Gov't Efforts To Release Iranian Aid Workers

Tehran, Oct 7, IRNA – Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Ali Larijani appreciated Libyan government's measures to release seven Iranian Red Crescent Society aid workers who were kidnapped in Libya by terrorists in July. The kidnapped Iranians were released on Saturday after 65 days and arrived home Sunday morning. They were in Libya on a humanitarian mission when they were captured by an unknown armed group on July 30, 2012 in the city of Benghazi. Since then, intensive negotiations were carried out in Tripoli, Tehran, Mecca, and New York for their release. Larijani appreciated the Libyan government and parliament for their help and efforts which led to the release of the Iranian nationals. According to reports, an official welcoming ceremony is to be held at the premises of Iran's Red Crescent Society for the released aid workers later in the day./end
