Majlis Speaker: Supporting Sectarianism, Detrimental To Islamic World

Tehran, May 14, IRNA - - Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday said supporting sectarianism as a plot of enemies, is detrimental to the Islamic world now. Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with Palestinian Foreign Minister Muhammad Ahmad Awaz. Larijani said Iran's main concern is Palestine and vindication of the rights of its oppressed people. Iran has always stood by the Palestinians and supports them to achieve their goals, he said, adding that Iran's stand is based on supporting resistance against the Zionist regime. Pointing to regional countries 'popular uprisings, Larijani reiterated that the revolutions in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia have served to isolate the Zionist regime. Awaz, for his part, appreciated the Iranian government and the nation for their support for the Palestinian nation and said Iranians have always stood by their Muslim brothers and sisters in Palestine. Underlining the need for unity among Muslim countries, he said the West and other enemies of Islamic countries have always tried to divide Sunnis and Shi'as in order to weaken them. Awaz underscored resistance as the only way to vindicate Palestinians' legitimate rights and freeing the occupied lands./end
