MAYOR OF UB CITY ATTENDS 30TH YEAR CELEBRATION OF IRI

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Mayor of the UB city Mr E.Bat-Uul Monday participated in the 30th year celebration of the International Republican Institute /IRI/ in Washington, the USA. The president of the IRI Mr L.W.Craner opened the ceremony, a senator of the USA Mr John McCain awarded key guests honorary certificates. Addressing the event, Mr Bat-Uul highlighted a need for political parties to have good relations with the people in order to win the election and gain a success. He thanked the IRI for a support given to the development of democracy in Mongolia during the last twenty years. He was followed by a leader of Democratic movement of Slovak Republic M.Dzurinda. The Mayor Mr Bat-Uul will also meet with a president of "National Endowment for Democracy" Mr Carl Gershman and will take the floor to highlight a development of governance. The officially established in 1983 IRI operates in more than 60 countries and launches projects to strengthen the democracy. Since 1992, the IRI has been supporting Mongolia in developing its democracy and strengthening its civil society, running many trainings.
