Meeting of Japanese Regional Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration

Pyongyang, August 19 (KCNA) -- The 10th general meeting of the Japanese regional committee of the Overseas Side Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration was held in Tokyo on August 9. Among those present were Son Hyong Gun, chairman of the regional committee and chairman of the Association for Democracy and Unification of South Koreans in Japan, its Honorary Chairperson An Pyong Ok, its Vice-Chairpersons So Chung On, director of the Department for International Affairs and Reunification of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), and Ri Tong Je, chairman of the Association of Koreans in Japan for Peaceful Reunification, and other members of the regional committee, and the permanent representative of the South Side Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration. A solidarity message from the North Side Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration was read out at the meeting. Chairman Son Hyong Gun in a report underlined the need for the regional committee to actively conduct diverse information activities to firmly preserve the Panmunjom declaration as the landmark for reunification common to all Koreans. The regional committee, in hearty response to the nation-wide solidarity and alliance movement of the compatriots in the north and the south and abroad for implementing the Panmunjom declaration, will play a positive role in holding with splendor the joint national event to be hosted in Pyongyang on the occasions of the 11th anniversary of the publication of the October 4 declaration and the Foundation Day of Korea, he said. He stressed the need to strengthen the regional committee as required by the new era and help the Koreans of various circles in Japan turn out in the drive for implementing the Panmunjom declaration.
