Mehmanparast Cites New Anti-Iran Sanctions As Illogical, Illegal

Tehran, Oct 16, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast here Tuesday described the new one-sided EU and US-led sanctions on Iran as illogical, illegal and inhuman. He made the remarks while addressing foreign and domestic journalists during his weekly press briefing, reiterating that the sanctions are imposed only on the pretext of opposing Iran's peaceful nuclear program. On imposing sanctions on Iran's import of passenger planes' parts, Mehmanparast said the question is why import of such parts that have no military applications, is banned. He reiterated that Iran's reliance on its independent policies and its opposition to foreign intervention in its domestic affairs are main concerns of the European countries. He said such illogical measures would further strengthen the Iranian nation in its selected route. Referring to the recent remarks of the EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on progress of nuclear negotiations with Iran and its coincidence with tightening EU sanctions against Tehran, he said the Islamic Republic has repeatedly announced its readiness to hold constructive talks with the West. On the last round of Iran-5+1 talks in Moscow, he said Iran's proposals to the P5+1 were comprehensive and constructive./end
