Mehmanparast: Iran-P5+1 Could Easily Reach Mutual Understanding

Yerevan, April 3, IRNA – Visiting Foreign Ministry spokesman of Iran Ramin Mehmanparast has said that Iran and the Group 5+1 could easily reach an understanding in course of the upcoming talks in Almaty, Kazakhstan, to commence April 5-6. Making the remark in an interview with IRNA correspondent here on Wednesday, Mehmanparast said Iran would get closer to its desired conclusions if the P5+1 member states continued to act as they did during the previous round of talks also held in Almaty on February 26-27. Noting that the upcoming talks would not be of a complicated nature, the spokesman said a clear and transparent prospect should be made upon which the rights of the Iranian nation would be acknowledged, by the end of the negotiations, and, at the same time, the alleged concerns and ambiguities would be removed through necessary measures taken by both sides. Mehmanparast believed that the upcoming talks should be conducted in a reasonable atmosphere which would help both sides reach a final solution. He explained that the main reason for the failure of the previous rounds of talks was that the demands made by the Group 5+1 were not reasonable since they asked Iran to do things which were not proportionate with their demands. Asked to comment on a number of domestic issues, including the next presidential election slated for June 14, Mehmanparast said that a strong public turnout in the 11th presidential election would further strengthen Iranˈs foreign policy. Referring to the designation of the new Iranian year (started March 21) as the Year of Political Epic and Economic Epic by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the spokesman said all efforts should be focused on enhancing national unity to consolidate the country’s power. Noting that the upcoming election was one major component of the Political Epic, he said the elections was regarded highly significant both inside and outside the country. As for the other part of this yearˈs motto (the Economic Epic), Mehmanparast said western pressures and illegal economic sanctions against the Iranian nation were aiming at disappointing people and discouraging them from participating in the elections./end
