Mehmanparast: Use Of Chemical Weapons By Syrian Opposition Forces, Substantiated Issue

Tehran, May 8, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Tuesday that one of the UN inspectors have provided a report substantiating use of chemical weapons by Syrian opposition forces. This is quite a documented issue that the Syrian people have been victimized by opposition groups due to their refusal to cooperate with them with women and children being beheaded and others being exposed to chemical substances. The Syrian government has called for investigation into the issue, he said adding that it is among responsibilities of all people to oppose the production and use of weapons of mass destruction including chemical weapons, he said. As one of the victims of chemical weapons and an active member of anti- chemical weapons convention, Iran believes that those who have ignored their commitment to eradicate such weapons particularly the US must be held responsible for this. All those who proliferate such weapons and put them at the disposal of the former Baathist regime of Iraqi, have now given such weapons to terrorist groups to use against the Syrian people, Mehmanparast said./end
