Member resignation won’t affect Thailand's charter drafting

BANGKOK, March 1 (TNA) – Thailand’s Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha says the resignation by Ticha Na Nakorn from the Constitution Drafting Committee and from the National Reform Council which takes effect Sunday will not have any impact on the ongoing drafting of the new constitution. General Prayut told journalists late Saturday that although Ticha had resigned from both positions, he believed remaining members could continue to work while the drafting of the new charter would not be affected. He added that no consideration had been made so far on appointing her successor. Meanwhile, Ticha said on her Facebook about her resignation that Thais should better understand on compromising. Nobody in the society would share a same opinion, especially on the work of National Reform Council which works like the Lower House in which those agree and disagree (on a subject). On members of the National Legislative Assembly appointing their relatives as their advisers and receive salary from taxpayers’ money, Gen. Prayut said although the law did not forbid, it was up to the members to assess whether it was appropriate to do such thing. Gen. Prayut said he had assigned the Assembly’s president Pornpetch Wichitcholchai to set up a committee to probe on this issue whether it was against standard etiquette. (TNA)
