Military action against Iran would be a strategic mistake: Iranian general

TEHRAN,Oct.28(MNA) – The deputy chief of the General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces said that military action against Iran would be a strategic mistake. “The enemies of the Iranian nation are aware that if they choose aggression and military action, first of all, they would be making a strategic mistake in their calculations, and secondly, the fate of the enemy would be determined in that war through the grace of God and in view of the divine promise and the fact that the Muslim and revolutionary Iranian nation is in a defensive position,” Major General Gholam Ali Rashid said during a meeting with a number of commanders and officials of the Iranian Navy on Saturday. “Our armed forces, particularly the Navy, will give a crushing response to any aggressive or surprise move through expanding their deterrence capability, and the enemies of the Iranian nation will suffer the fate of (former Iraqi dictator) Saddam Hussein and his regime,” he said. Elsewhere in his remarks, Rashid said, “Expanding the Islamic Republic of Iran’s might on the sea and the presence of the country’s strategic naval forces in coastal and international waters will increase Iran’s deterrence capability in the event of a strategic confrontation with the United States and (ability) to serve the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran, particularly on the sea.”
