Military intervention in Syria would be catastrophic: Zimbabwean FM

TEHRAN,Aug.28(MNA) -- Zimbabwean Foreign Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi said military intervention in Syria would have serious repercussions. “We are worried that some world powers will unilaterally call for military intervention in Syria. Such actions will have catastrophic and serious repercussions,” Mumbengegwi told the Persian service of the Mehr News Agency on Monday. On the efforts to find an international solution to the Syrian crisis at the NAM summit, the Zimbabwean foreign minister said, “I am hopeful that one of the accomplishments of the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Tehran will be the peaceful resolution of the Syrian crisis.” He also noted, “The problem in Syria is one of the issues which requires special consideration from the movement.” On Iran’s accession to the rotating presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement, Mumbengegwi said, “We are extremely excited and satisfied with Iran’s three-year presidency, and we look forward to the important measures that this country will be able to take during this time.” He also stated that he has a favorable outlook for Iran’s three-year presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement and believes that the country will be able to defend the interests of developing nations during its presidency, without becoming intimidated by any country or power. “This movement requires brave, creative, and decisive leadership, and the ideologies of such leadership need to be transparent, and I think that the Islamic Republic of Iran meets and exceeds all of these requirements,” the Zimbabwean foreign minister added.
