Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan to visit Thailand

BANGKOK, April 29 (TNA) -- Japan's Minister for Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida is scheduled to visit Thailand between May 1-2, at the invitation of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said via its website that, this will be the first visit by a Japanese Foreign Minister in five years while Thailand will be the first country in Southeast Asia that the Japanese Foreign Minister has chosen to visit. During the visit, Mr Kishida is scheduled to have a bilateral meeting with Mr Don Pramudwinai, Thailand's Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the evening of May 1. Both sides will exchange views on a wide range of issues, including economic cooperation, regional security matters, as well as cooperation within the UN and ASEAN frameworks. Following the meeting, the two foreign ministers will sign the Memorandum of Intent (MOI) between the government of Thailand and the government of Japan on Deepening the Cooperation in Agriculture and its Related Areas. After the signing ceremony, Mr Don will host a dinner in honor of Mr Kishida and his delegation. On May 2, Mr Kishida will pay courtesy calls on General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, and Mr Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister. (TNA)
