Minju Joson Blames U.S. for Sparking Nuclear Arms Race Again

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- Shortly ago, The New York Times claimed that Washington's strategic weapons modernization program is one of the reasons why Russia and China were compelled to increase the funds for developing nuclear weapons and such arms buildup is reviving the arms race dating back to the Cold War era, upsetting the equilibrium of forces among big powers and, furthermore, creating the danger of a nuclear war. Meanwhile, Ta Kung Pao, the newspaper of Hong Kong, China, recently conveyed the news that the U.S. and Russia have buckled down upon the development of smaller nuclear weapons of the new generation, expressing concern over the fact that nuclear arms race such as that dating back to the Cold War era may kick off. Minju Joson Thursday says in a commentary in this regard: As media unanimously comment, the nuclear arms race among major nuclear powers has already become a reality and the U.S. is chiefly to blame for this. The U.S. nuclear weapons modernization poses a serious threat to the DPRK. The DPRK knows very well how to deal with the U.S. which denies the former's ideology and social system and refuses to coexist with it. The DPRK will steadily bolster up its nuclear arsenal no matter how the world may change and as long as the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK remains unchanged. The U.S. would be well advised to stop at once its nuclear weapons modernization and reckless saber-rattling, bearing in mind its strategy of nuclear monopoly is no more than a daydream. -0-
