Miscalculation in talks will produce no result, Iran tells West

TEHRAN, June 13 (MNA) – Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator warned the West on Wednesday that if they make a “miscalculation” in their dialogue with Iran no positive result will be achieved. “They (Westerners) should not think that since negotiations have begun they can return to their past wrong path because if they make a miscalculation the negotiations will bear no fruit,” Saeed Jalili told the parliament. The remarks by Jalili come as Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) are set to resume negotiations in Moscow on June 18-19. Jalili said if the West seeks “successful negotiations” they should follow the path of “dialogue-cooperation strategy” because the “language of threat” and the “strategy of pressure” on Iran will get them nowhere. He added “power”, “logic”, and “initiative” form the cornerstone of Iran’s dialogue with the West. Iran has put forward a five-point plan in its negotiations with the 5+1 group including a recognition of Iran’s right to nuclear enrichment, said Jalili, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. Jalili went on to say that “Iran’s rights and commitments must be clearly defined and Iran will not accept to be regarded as an exception.” Jalili also dismissed remarks by certain Western officials that time is running out for negotiations, saying, “What has reached an end is the strategy of pressure and the time for dialogue has just begun.”
