MONGOLIA TO HAVE REPRESENTATIVE OFFICE AT UNEP

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Minister of Environment and Green Development S.Oyun was authorized at the cabinet meeting on Monday to appoint a representative of Mongolia to the UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya with a two-year period. Moreover, the Minister was allowed to set up an office at the Ministry of Environment with a responsibility for supporting everyday works of Mongolia’s presidency of the UNEP, and to appoint two staffers to work at this office. Mongolia was elected the president of the UN Environment Assembly during its first session this June 23-27 in the UNEP Headquarters, Nairobi, Kenya. Main duties of the UNEA president are to chair the UNEA sessions, to monitor implementation of action programmes, finance and budgets approved for the period of 2014-2016, to head and consult meetings of the UNEA’s bureaus, to regulate their dialogues and connections, to regulate talks among regions and political groups with the support of the UNEA Secretariat, to chair political and policy dialogues, and to attend international meetings and consultations representing the UNEA.
