Mongolia to implement project together with Australia in mining sector

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolia and Australia will co-implement a project called "Let’s mine for development" in frames of the five-year assistance programme. The Minister of Mining D.Gankhuyag made the agreement at a meeting with Mr Gary Gray, the Australian Minister for Resources, Energy and Tourism, and with Mr Peter Baxter, the Director-General of the Australian Agency for International Development (AUSAid), during his working visit on May 21-24. The Mongolian Minister held official talks with them on developing the transparent, responsible, sustainable and environmentally-friendly mining. He proposed that the AUSAid spend a specific part of the education scholarship of the Australian government for preparing mining specialists and running re-training for them. After these meeting, the Minister met Mr Chris Hartcher, the New South Wales Minister for Resources and Energy, to share views on related issues. He also visited a mining engineering school at the University of New South Wales State and got acquainted with the latest hi tech and simulators. As the sides agreed, the countries will cooperate in preparing mining engineers. Within the visit, the second meeting of the Joint Working Group of the Mongolia-Australia Ministries of Mining has taken place. At this meeting, the sides exchanged views on the mining sector and on environment for foreign investments in Mongolia. The next meeting will run in Ulaanbaatar. Our delegation also took part in an international meeting organized by the Australian government, and in the 6th meeting of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
