MONGOLIAN WOMEN RECEIVES AWARD

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The reproductive health specialist of the National Centre for Maternal and Child Health of Mongolia, D.Enkhmaa has been awarded a 2013 UNESCO-L'Oreal For Women in Science International Fellowship. She is a reproductive health specialist who will study why certain women have a greater risk of developing hypertension and preeclampsia during pregnancy than others. She will also investigate why women who develop these conditions during pregnancy are twice as likely to suffer from cardiovascular disease as they age. Another aim of the research is to contribute to lowering of the mortality rate for women and children during pregnancy and childbirth. Each year, 15 doctoral or post-doctoral researchers in the life sciences are awarded International Fellowships which enable them to widen their scope of expertise at recognized research institutions outside their home countries. The total value of its premium is USD 40 thousand. The award ceremony took place on March 28 at Sorbonne University in Paris, France. In 1998, the L'Oreal Foundation and UNESCO joined forces to create For Women in Science partnership, which supports women researchers all over the world. In its aim to promote and encourage women throughout their scientific careers, the For Women in Science partnership has also developed a global network of International, Regional and National Fellowship programs aimed at supporting young women who represent the future of science. A major aim of the program is to identify and support eminent women in science throughout the world who are working in both life and physical sciences. By the end of 2013, a total of 1,729 women scientists from over 100 countries will have benefitted from the program. Ch.Enkhtuya
