More police to guard US embassy Bangkok

BANGKOK, December 15 (TNA) - More police will be deployed near the U.S. embassy compound in Bangkok after anti-government protesters said they would march there to seek the Washington’s support for their efforts to change Thailand. Nithithorn Lamleua, a protest leader, said the planned march comes after U.S. officials had issued a statement supporting the February 2nd general election. The government’s Centre for Administration of Peace and Order said coordination has been made with U.S. officials regarding security preparations. Meanwhile, work to restore power and water supplies at the Government House has finally begun, after the site was pre-occupied by anti-government groups in an attempt to oust the government. Police are also searching for a 22-year-old vocational student on arrest charges for slandering the monarch last month at a Bangkok sports stadium. (TNA)
