Moscow, Abu Dhabi have common position on uncompromising anti-terror efforts - Lavrov

ABU DHABI, August 29. /TASS/. Russia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have a common position on uncompromising efforts against terrorism and terrorist and extremist ideologies, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday after talks with UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. "Naturally, key attention was focused on the necessity of uncompromising efforts against all sorts of terrorists," he said. "Here, we have a common position, as well as a common position on the necessity to exterminate terrorist ideologies and extremist ideologies. We told about the initiatives discussed at the United Nations Security Council where Russia comes out with relevant initiatives on the fight against the terrorist ideologies, including together with our Egyptian friends." According to Lavrov, another topic for discussion at the talks was the situation in Syria, Libya, Yemen and Iraq. "Of course, we spoke about the necessity to settle the Palestinian problem. We have identical or very close positions on those problems, and we once again reiterated our commitment to coordinate our actions on these pressing matters," he added. Speaking about bilateral contacts, the Russian top diplomat noted positive tendencies in relations between Moscow and Abu Dhabi. "There is sustainable progress in the efforts to bring our relations up to the level of strategic partnership. We appreciate our UAE colleagues’ commitment to further joint work," he stressed. "We have good trade and economic relations, investment ties, with the Russian-UAE intergovernmental commission on trade-and-economic and technical cooperation and its sectoral groups playing a central role in their development. The next regular meeting of this commission will be held in Abu Dhabi by the end of the year." The Russian minister also said that the sides had agreed to take extra efforts to support economic operators "in the interests of expanding trade and mutual capital investments, closer cooperation in the energy, industry and banking sectors." "It is pleasing to see sustainable growth in the tourist flows from Russia," he noted. "We also discussed ties between the Hermitage Museum and relevant structures in the UAE. I think it is a very promising area," Lavrov added. Read more
