Moscow and Seoul concerned with North Korea’s violation of UN Security Council resolutions - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, January 19 /TASS/. Russia calls for the earliest resumption of a dialogue on the Korean peninsula’s nuclear problem, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov said at consultations with Hwang Joon-kook, the South Korean Foreign Ministry Special Representative for Peace and Security on the Korean Peninsula on Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. "The sides exchanged views on prospects for settling the Korean peninsula’s nuclear problem in the light of hydrogen bomb tests announced by the authorities of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. "Serious concern was expressed over Pyongyang’s actions characterized as direct violation of appropriate resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. It is important for all the countries concerned to join efforts to avert the growth of tensions in northeast Asia," the ministry went on to say. The Russian side stressed the need to resume dialogue aimed at searching for ways of political and diplomatic settlement, including in the context of putting the process of formation of mechanisms of peace and security on practical track.
