Moscow and Tokyo determined to hold serious talks on peace treaty - Japanese Foreign Ministry

TOKYO, January 15. /TASS/. The Japanese government thinks that Moscow and Tokyo intend to hold serious negotiations on a peace treaty, a spokesperson for the Japanese Foreign Ministry told TASS on Tuesday commenting on Monday's talks of Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono in Moscow. "The issue of a peace treaty is very complicated, it has remained unresolved for many years. However, current leaders of Japan and Russia are determined, we think, to resolve this issue. Monday's talks in Moscow were based precisely on that," the spokesperson said. "At the talks, the Japanese side clearly stated its position, including on the territorial dispute. It was a serious and honest exchange of opinions," the spokesperson added. Monday's talks in Moscow helped make preparations for the upcoming visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Moscow, as well as the new Russian-Japanese summit scheduled for January 22, the spokesperson concluded.
