Moscow plays major role in resolving Syria crisis - opposition figure

MOSCOW, September 24. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, who is also the presidential envoy for the Middle East and Africa, and representatives of Syria’s opposition forces focused on the Syria crisis and fight against the Islamic State terrorist organisation at their meeting in Moscow, Secretary General of the Syrian National Democratic Action Commission Mahmoud Marai told a news conference on Thursday. "We often visit Moscow and attended the Moscow-1 and Moscow-2 talks," Marai said. During this visit to the Russian capital we have discussed the situation in Syria and the latest developments in the country with Mr Bogdanov and also pointed to the need of establishing an international coalition to combat terrorism." Marai noted that the Russian foreign ministry "plays a major role in seeking solutions to the Syria crisis." "As for the Moscow-3 talks, the time and accord of all the sides are needed for defining the timeframe of such a meeting," said Mais Kredi, the Commission’s secretary. Besides, the members of the Syrian National Democratic Action Commission said they would not take part in the coming intra-Syrian meeting due to be held in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana, and called the Astana-2 meeting. "We are thankful to the Kazakhstan’s government but believe Moscow is the most suitable floor for the talks and so we would not like to leave it," Kredi said. Read more
