Moscow, Seoul discuss peace settlement on Korean Peninsula - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, February 2. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov met with South Korean Foreign Ministry’s Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee Do-hoon in Moscow to discuss regional issues. "The diplomats exchanged opinions on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia with an emphasis on the need to continue work to promote political and diplomatic solutions to the entire range of problems facing the sub-region," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday. "Both stressed the importance of further coordinating the approaches of Russia and the Republic of Korea to practical efforts on this track," the statement reads. Relations between Seoul and Pyongyang began to thaw in the beginning of the year. Following several rounds of talks held in the Panmunjom settlement located in the demilitarized zone separating the two countries, the parties agreed that North Korea would send a delegation to the Winter Olympic Games scheduled to be held in South Korea’s PyeongChang on February 9-25. The two states will also hold negotiations on various levels, including between defense officials. Read more
