MP: Ahmed Shaheed's Report Lacks Legality

Tehran, Dec 8, IRNA - Spokesman for Majlis Legal and Judicial Committee, Mohammad-Ali Esfanani said Friday that the recent report issued by the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, Ahmed Shaeed lacks legality. Speaking to IRNA, he said the report on the status of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran is biased and politically motivated. Western countries have a negative and biased stands on Iran, he said, adding that this negative attitude could be observed in such reporters. Selection of people like Ahmed Shaeed as the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights is regarded as a preplanned scenario in designating people, who serve interests of the west, he said. Ahmed Shaheed report is considered as blatant interference in the affairs of other countries, said Esfanani. Silence of the West in dealing with violation of human rights in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Myanmar explicitly indicates that such reports on Iran is one-sided and biased, he said. Bomb explosion among innocent women, children and elderly persons on the Day of Ashura (the 10th day of Muharram) is blatant violation of human rights and a concrete evidence on crime against humanity which has been ignored by the West, he said. On role of Canada in endorsement of the UN resolution against Iran, he said the Canadian government pursues the guidelines dictated by Zionists. Given violation of human rights against Canadian native settlers, he said the issue could not be ignored and a country who violates the legitimate rights of its own settlers in a politically-motivated move endorses a resolution against status of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran./end
