MP Criticizes Human Rights Manipulation As Political Tool

Geneva, Oct 14, IRNA - Vice Chairman of the Executive Council of Iran's Inter-Parliamentary Group Zargham Sadeqi on Tuesday criticized manipulation of human rights as a political tool. He made the remarks in the 131st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). All measures done in support of human rights should be in accordance with the international rules and regulations, the MP said. He added that Western powers should not be allowed to manipulate human rights issues and fighting terrorism as an excuse for raiding sovereign states. Powers' interference in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria under the pretext of supporting human rights and fighting terrorism has caused great damages to these countries' infrastructure and inflicted great sufferings upon the civilians' living there. Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani is also in Switzerland to attend the meeting of the IPU Assembly. Larijani left Tehran for Geneva on Sunday afternoon heading a parliamentary delegation and is slated to deliver a speech at the 131st IPU assembly on Tuesday. Over 700 lawmakers from 141 countries, including 104 speakers and deputy speakers of parliaments have attended the confab from October 12 to 16.
