MP Describes Rohani’s NY Trip As Positive

Tehran, Sept 30, IRNA – Majlis Representative from Tehran Ahmad Tavakoli on Sunday described the performance of President Hassan Rohani during his visit to New York as positive. Speaking to IRNA, he strongly criticized the insulting behavior of few individuals against the president upon his arrival at Mehrabad airport and underlined that such behaviours are regarded as an offense, he said. Any criticism or gathering should be based on rule of law, he said. One of the achievements of Rohani’s visit to New York was the US withdrawals from its previous stands against the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said. This is for the first time ever that the US has withdrawn its anti-Iran stance and the US president during his keynote speech recognized Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and talked about mutual respect and adopting identical stands, Tavakoli said. The US previously set preconditions for negotiations with Iran but this time they changed their approach, he said. Iran always lodged protests against US's wrong approaches such as its full support for ex-Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in his eight year war on Iran and shooting down an Iranian airliner with all its passengers and crews on board, he said. The US has changed its approaches and did not set even a single precondition prior to the meeting, he said. Through new stands adopted by the US, some of Iran's terms have been materialized, he said. Although the US performance was positive but the most important issue is the reaction of the US in the future and its willingness to take more concrete steps./end
