MP: EU Court Decision To Lift Sanctions Proves EU Perpetrated Illegal Action

Tehran, Sept 23, IRNA – Sanctions on Iranian banks and firms were political from the beginning with no legal basis and the EU court revoked them for lack of substance, a senior member of the Iranian parliament said Sunday. Vice-Chairman of Majlis Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy Mansour Haqiqatpour made the remarks when asked to comment on the latest ruling of the EU court to lift sanctions on 17 Iranian firms. The MP said that lifting of the EU sanctions was “a positive but not sufficient” move made by the EU. On September 16, officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) announced that, following months of efforts by Iran, the EU General Court ruled that the European sanctions on the IRISL should be lifted. The move was made a few days after the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled against the sanctions imposed on Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) as well as those imposed against several Iranian banks and companies. Iranian banks and firms have been targeted as part of US-led sanctions. The MP stressed that the illegal sanctions have inflicted “heavy losses” on the Iranian nation which should be compensated The Iranian people and companies should be compensated for the “heavy losses” they have suffered due to the sanctions, Haqiqatpour said. He urged Iranian officials to take legal action with the western courts of justice against the unlawful sanctions until their total removal and seek compensation./end
