MP: Iran Should Turn Sanctions Into Opportunity

Tehran, Jan 16, IRNA – Majlis Representative from Kashmar Mohammad Esmaeilnia said on Tuesday that all should help turn the unfair economic sanctions into a an opportunity to go ahead with self-sufficiency. Addressing formal session of the parliament, he proposed that 80 percent of the next year's budget be allocated to promotion of non-oil exports, education and research. "The eight-year Iraqi-imposed war on Iran (1980-1988) should be considered as a model during which the then government addressed all problems and that the same policy should be applied to thwart the sanctions." He deplored the critical humanitarian situation in Syria and said that the United Nations must fulfill its responsibility to provide the Syrians with relief aid and shelter. Iran has called on the warring parties to stop violence and declare ceasefire under the auspices of the United Nations./end
