MP stands for disbanding draft boards in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 14 / Trend M. Aliyev / Ending military conscription in Azerbaijan will serve to create a modern military system as in developed countries, MP Zahid Oruj told media today. "This is an integral part of military reforms," he said. "The public has also sought to eliminate military registration and enlistment offices." The state mobilization and recruitment service has turned into an independent structure, MP said. "Public and international organizations think Azerbaijan should form a professional army," he said. "The new system will facilitate transparent, normal and fair public participation." He said draft boards are structures under constant supervision in the fight against corruption. "I think the names of people wearing military uniforms were mentioned in various corruption offenses," he said. "This does not promote the image of our country and the army." Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree to apply the law on "Military Duty and Military Service." According to the document, the Azerbaijani Military Commissariat, the Military Commissariat of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and regional and city commissariats have been disbanded. Arzu Rahimov was appointed as hte head of the Azerbaijani state service on mobilisation and conscription upon Aliyev's decree. Do you have any feedback? Contact our journalist at agency@trend.az
