MP: Trump’s win to benefit Iran

Tehran, Nov 22, IRNA – Iranian lawmaker Morteza Safari Natanzi said the victory of Republicans over Democrats would benefit Iran. Talking exclusively with Tehran-based English newspaper Iran Daily, Natanzi said he had predicted that Trump and Republicans would win the presidential race. This is because a number of factors made it easy to predict the results of US elections. He underscored that contrary to the public opinion and human rights claims trumpeted by American politicians, the US is a male-dominated society which can not see a woman like Hillary Clinton take the helm of the White House. The lawmaker added traditionally every eight years Republicans and Democrats have won the White House race in turn. Hence, this time a Republican must have been elected as the president. He noted subjects brought up during campaign speeches of Trump and Clinton impacted American public. Trump’s populist approaches lured some strata and increased his votes. Natanzi underscored that Republicans have always adopted harsher rhetoric toward Iran compared to Democrats. He noted despite Republicans’ harsh stance, their practical measures against Tehran have been less than those of Democrats. In 2002, former US President George W. Bush branded Iran as part of “an axis of evil” and threatened the Islamic Republic with a military offensive. But, in practice, he did not take any measure against Tehran. However, Democrats followed up anti-Iran sanctions seriously. 'If we can influence Trump’s stances through lobbies, we might be able to deal with Republicans better than Democrats.Republicans are “dealers”; in other words they are “businessmen”,' he said. He concluded as saying that Trump himself is also a businessman. Hence, lucrative deals can push Republicans to change their anti-Iran approaches. Touching upon Trump threats to scrap or renegotiate Iran’s nuclear deal, he said Trump’s advisors will not allow him to do so. This is because his remarks against the JCPOA do not benefit the US. He noted that the former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger has announced that a revocation of the Iran nuclear agreement would benefit Iran more than the US. This shows that American politicians will not let Trump fulfill his anti-Iran remarks. 1378/IRNA
