MP Underlines Importance Of Lebanon For Stability In Region

Beirut, Sept 3, IRNA – Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Iran strongly supports Lebanon integrity and national unity and believes that Lebanon can play an important role in safeguarding security in the region. Boroujerdi, heading an Iranian parliamentary delegation, arrived in Beirut on Monday and met with new Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam. In the meeting, in which Iran’s Ambassador to Beirut Ghazanfar Roknabadi was present too, the two sides discussed regional development and Syrian crisis. Tammam Salam, for his part, called situation in the region very sensitive, adding that radical religious groups only serve the Zionist regime. After the meeting, Boroujerdi told reporters that he had good negotiation with the Lebanese official and expressed hope that with the establishment of the new government in Lebanon, the nation can take advantage of the opportunity. He added that in his meeting with new Lebanese prime minister, he presented a report on his meetings in Syria. He underlined that Iran will support Syria as an important country in the resistance axis in the region. Before the meeting, Boroujerdi had met separately with Lebanon Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Head of Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament Abdullatif Zein./end
