MP: US Trying To Increase Influence In Myanmar

Tehran, Jan 20, IRNA – Iranian Parliamentarian Mansour Haqiqatpour said certain media exaggerated the adverse conditions of the Myanmar Muslims to pave the way for presence of the US forces there. Talking to reporters on the outcome of the visit of an Iranian parliamentarian delegation to Myanmar here on Sunday, he said despite the fact that a human catastrophe took place in that South Asian country, certain media have exaggerated their situation to prepare the ground for US presence. He said the visit of the US president to Myanmar together with other measures taken by Washington served the purpose of gaining a foothold in the country. He noted that the US administration is after bringing Myanmar within its own domain of influence to make use of its natural and mineral resources. He further said that the Iranian parliamentarian delegation visited four refugee camps belonging to Muslim and Buddhist refugees during its six-day stay in the country. Noting that 33 camps have been set for the Muslim refugees, he said high population density, adverse health situation and improper nutrition condition as well as lack of power and physicians are among the problems of the refugees in their camps. The MP also referred to dispatch of humanitarian aid, preparing the ground for return of refugees to their homes and long-term demographic plans as measures necessary to maintain the status of Muslims in Myanmar./end
