Musharraf Can Only Leave Country If Court Allows Him: Minister

Islamabad, Oct 14 – Pakistan’s former President, Pervez Mushrraf, cannot leave the country, the country's Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Sunday. “Musharraf's name is on the Exit Control List and it could only be removed if the courts deliver any verdict, he said at a press conference in Islamabad. The former president was formally arrested in the murder case of Abdul Rashid Ghazi, deputy imam of Islamabad’s Lal Masjid, who was killed in the 2007 military operation. Ghazi's son had registered the murder case against Musharraf. The former military ruler also faces high treason case and the government has knocked at the door of the Supreme Court to begin his trial for twice abrogating the constitution. The apex court had instructed the government to investigate Musharraf as to why he had sacked the elected government in 1999 and on what grounds had he suspended the constitution in 2007. The minister said that the Federal Investigation Agency has been directed to accelerate investigation into the treason case against former president and present the report as soon as possible. He said the investigators have been directed to complete investigation in six weeks./end
